Forward of Arsenal and the Dutch national team Robin Van Persie has decided not to renew the contract with the Gunners. The Dutchman's contract expires in a year.
“I kept quiet all this time out of respect for the Club and in consultation with the leadership, but it is only fair to tell what is really going on at the moment.
As previously announced, I had a meeting with the President of Arsenal after the end of the season. We discussed the future of the Club, its strategy and policy. Financial terms of the new contract were not discussed. I had a great season, but my goals is not to help the Club to win trophies and achieve success. From a huge respect for coach, players and fans, I don't want to go into details, but I, unfortunately, it has become clear that in many ways we are looking at things differently.
I thought long and hard decision not to renew the contract. The fans have a right to disagree with me and I'll always respect their opinion. No matter what happens, I love Arsenal fans and the Club. This is where I grew up and became a man. On further developments I will inform immediately after returning from a two-week vacation, President of the Club,” – said Van Persie.
