SL Benfica (Sport Lisboa e Benfica) - Portuguese football (soccer) Club from the city of Lisbon. Sports society of Lisbon Benfica, or simply Benfica, based in Lisbon, and representing the city in a variety of sports, including football. 
The Club was founded in 1904 by a group of twenty-four persons. Originally it was called sports society of Lisbon, but in 1908 merged with Sports society of Benfica. The new club was to combine the logo and colors of each of the two sports societies. 
In 1920 for «Benfica» was a serious blow when several players left the Club and formed the Belenenses. In 1933, the Club became one of the founders of the Portuguese examples along with Sporting and Porto. As two of its major historic rival, Benfica never left the top division. The first title comes to the Club in 1935.

Since the mid 90 's to early 2000 's was a very dark time in the Club's history. At that time, the Club could not win anything and only accumulated debts. For example, in 2001, Benfica 6 finished 2nd in the National Championship and for the first time in European cups. 
In 2004, the Club, under the leadership of José Antonio Camacho won the National Cup, the winning goal at the 103-minute scoring Orlov Captain Simao Sabrosa. But in the same year died on the pitch striker Miklos Feher. 
In the season of 2009/2010 team for the first time in five years, becoming the champion of Portugal under the direction of Jorge Jesus, in the same year, they won the League Cup.
